Sustainability Explored is a series of inspiring and informative one-day workshops on different aspects of design, building and technology at the magnificent Pines Calyx in Kent (the most sustainable conference venue in the UK). The workshops provides an essential guide to what is involved in creating sustainable buildings and communities. The first in the series, Green Roofs Explored , was extremely popular.

The next workshop, Zero Carbon Homes Explored, is on September 10th

For people concerned with construction, in any way, there are significant challenges as well as major opportunities. The technologies, products and designs that are essential to construct zero-carbon buildings at a low cost already exist today and there is a considerable amount which can be learned from the way they have been applied.

  • Each workshop features some of the UK’s leading experts offering the opportunity to develop an appreciation of the dynamic potential of sustainable construction.
  • Meet and mingle with like-minded professionals in an informal and naturally inspiring setting overlooking the sea at St Margaret’s Bay in Kent.

"For anyone involved in planning, design and construction it is clearly time to get to grips with the implicationsof zero carbon building both technically and interms of cost."
- Jae Mather, Intelligent Sustainable Solutions

Next in the series:

Zero Carbon Homes Explored – September 10th 2008

There is an urgent need to build homes which are energy efficient so we can afford to live in them as energy prices climb steeply. The heat and power wasted in the UK’s homes needs to be reduced as part of a drive to reduce global warming carbon dioxide emissions.

For Zero Carbon Homes Explored we have assembled some of the most prominent figures behind the UK’s pioneering low and zero-carbon homes. Our experts will be sharing their expertise and giving you an appreciation of how your business or organisation can already start to implement the future mandatory zero carbon building construction standards – known as Code 5 and Code 6. It will provide best practice examples of how these standards can be achieved. The clock is already ticking:

  • New public sector homes must meet strict new Zero Carbon standards (Code 6) by 2013 (just five years time).
  • All new homes will have to meet the same standards by 2016.
